Safeguarding Policy

Safeguarding Policy

The safety of children and members of other vulnerable groups is paramount and all, without exception, have the right to protection from abuse. All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously, responded to swiftly and appropriately and all the Academy’s staff and volunteers have a responsibility to report concerns.

  1. PURPOSE AND FUNCTION OF THE ACADEMY

The object of the Yasmin Taylor Academy of Dance shall be to advance the education of students in the Arts, and  particularly in Dance.

  1. THE ACADEMY ENVIRONMENT

The Academy is run by qualified staff. The venue is Brookfield Community School in which some areas are open to the public. It is the policy of the Academy to work in partnership with the school and parents/guardians to provide a safe environment at the Academy for all as far as it is reasonably practicable.

  1. TO WHOM DOES THIS POLICY APPLY

This policy relates to children under the age of 18 years and members of vulnerable groups of any age whose needs are identified to Academy staff by parents, guardians and carers prior to their attendance at the Academy. This should be done upon registration or by contacting the address or telephone number at the foot of this document. The Academy actively seeks, wherever possible, to meet these needs but must know beforehand in order to prepare support – or to let you know we are unable to help.

  1. ACADEMY PERSONNEL

The Academy follows the relevant legal guidelines in selecting personnel and maintaining responsible records. Where appropriate, Academy personnel are CRB checked. During lessons the Principal can be contacted either whilst teaching or on the telephone number at the foot of this page. Every problem will be taken seriously and will be documented and dated.

  1. PREPARATION FOR ATTENDANCE AT THE ACADEMY

The Academy sends out this policy on students registration to parents, guardians and carers. In this way, the Academy ensures that everyone attending classes at the Academy is aware that children and/or vulnerable adults are not supervised by the Academy and that parents, guardians and carers are expected to make arrangements for them to attend with and be supervised at all times by a responsible adult. Academy personnel are not permitted to take on this role.

  1. PERFORMANCE AND CHANGING AREAS

The Academy endeavours to provide suitable performing and changing facilities but draws to the attention of parents/guardians that most of these areas are unsupervised. Parents or their representatives are responsible for the welfare of students at the Academy and should accompany them, remaining on the premises until the young person leaves.

  1. PHOTOGRAPHS, VIDEO-RECORDING AND PRESS PHOTOGRAPHY

All  unauthorised photography and recording of any kind are prohibited at the Academy at all times. No press photography is allowed without prior notification. Parents/guardians should always be present for any official photography.

  1. THE LEGISLATION AND GUIDANCE THAT SUPPORTS THIS POLICYHOLDER

The rehabilitation of offenders Act 1974; The Children Act 1989; The Police Act 1997; The Data Protection Act 1998; The Human Rights Act 1998; The Protection of Children Act 1999; The Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000; The Children’s Act 2004; The Vulnerable Groups Act 2006.

  1. POLICY REVIEW

The Academy will constantly review their policy, revising and enhancing it as necessary. In doing this they will look to most notably the NSPCC, the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing

Implemented from 2012
